Dovercourt seafront is a pleasant tide-washed beach and has been awarded the prestigious blue flag for quality. Within walking distance there is a sports hall, café, amusements, skating rink, putting green and a croquet lawn to keep visitors entertained. The local town of Dovercourt has a variety of shops including Iceland, Boots, Asda, Morrisons, Argos, B&M, The Original Factory Shop, Superdrug and The Original Factory Shop as well as many local shops selling sportswear, electrical equipment. Not to mention many local pubs, restaurants and the main line Railway Station.
Market Day takes place in Dovercourt High Street every Friday and runs from early morning to late afternoon. The market has over 20 regular traders selling a wide range of products from fresh meats, fruit and veg, through to ladies, men’s and children’s fashion. You will also find a selection of hot snacks and drinks available throughout the day.
Historic Harwich is home to The Electric Palace one of the earliest cinemas in Britain which has survived virtually, unchanged since 1911. Customers can enjoy recently released films and occasional live performances. A detailed list of films showing is available from Reception.
The Redoubt is a circular fort built in 1808 to protect the harbour against a threat of a French invasion. It now houses a museum and collection of artillery and wartime memorabilia. The highest point of the Redoubt has superb panoramic views over the entire peninsula. Other buildings/places if interest include The Lifeboat Museum, Halfpenny Pier, The Radio Museum, Angel Gate and the Old Treadmill  Crane.
